BoJ Keeps Rates Unchanged

The Bank of Japan left its benchmark rate at 1%, signaling patience even as inflation pressures build. Governor Kazuo Ueda said price growth should move above the 2% target later this fiscal year, pointing to AI-driven demand and a weaker yen as key factors.

That message briefly lifted the yen, but the move faded after his press conference. Traders had already positioned for a possible October hike, so the policy decision did little to disrupt broader market expectations.

  • Rate decision: unchanged at 1%
  • Inflation view: expected to rise above 2%
  • Main drivers: AI investment and yen weakness
  • Market takeaway: policy remains supportive of risk assets

Crypto Prices Stay Calmer Than Expected

Bitcoin traded near $63,900 after the announcement, showing only a small daily move. Ether also held close to $1,885, while Binance Coin stood out with a 3.5% gain to about $591.

Here is the latest snapshot from the market:

  • Bitcoin (BTC): $63,885, down 0.07% on the day and up 0.5% on the week
  • Ethereum (ETH): $1,888, down 0.62% on the day and up 1.0% on the week
  • Binance Coin (BNB): $591, up 3.5% on the day and up 4.4% on the week

The muted reaction suggests the decision was widely expected. In practice, many traders had already adjusted positions before the announcement, which helped keep price swings limited.

Why the Yen Carry Trade Still Matters

Japan’s low-rate environment continues to support the yen carry trade, where investors borrow cheaply in yen and move capital into higher-yielding assets. That flow can benefit cryptocurrencies when risk appetite remains firm.

Maria Tanaka, Senior Strategist at CryptoInsights, said the stable carry trade creates upward pressure on Bitcoin and other risk assets. Her view is that liquidity continues to favor growth sectors, especially as AI investment stays strong.

AI Spending and Currency Pressure Shape the Backdrop

Ueda’s comments tied inflation expectations to two forces that also matter for digital assets: technology spending and currency weakness. AI-related capital investment can lift demand across the broader economy, while a softer yen makes overseas risk exposure more attractive.

  • AI spending supports infrastructure and technology demand
  • Higher investment flows can spill into blockchain and digital assets
  • Bitcoin often reflects shifts in liquidity and risk appetite

What Traders Are Watching Next

For now, Bitcoin appears to be holding a steady range near $64,000 rather than breaking sharply in either direction. BNB’s stronger weekly performance shows that selective risk-taking is still present, even if the broader market remains cautious.

Jamal Peterson of MarketPulse said BNB’s strength reflects activity on Binance Smart Chain, while Ether is still consolidating. Bitcoin’s flat trading, he added, points to cautious optimism as investors wait for the next policy signal.
